Centennial College - Ashtonbee Campus Library & Student Hub

The new Ashtonbee Campus Library & Student Hub at Centennial College consists of a new library, student services, and main entrance of the Ashtonbee Campus. The facility includes an addition of a second floor above the existing gymnasium and additional renovations/upgrades to the existing building areas.

In accordance with Centennial College's desire to make the college a greener, healthier place to work and learn, the Ashtonbee Campus Renewal project is designed and constructed with sustainability in mind.

An energy model was created to represent final design of the Centennial College expansion. The purpose of modeling is to compare energy performance to the minimum required by the Ontario Building Code, assess energy performance on a LEED scale and to provide guidance to the design team.


The existing incoming electrical service to the Ashtonbee building was utilized to accommodate the entire two-storey library and fitness area added on top of a newly renovated gymnasium. High efficiency with low mercury T5 fluorescent's continuously suspended throughout all areas with low voltage switching, occupancy sensor, and daylight harvesting controls provided a unique lighting strategy to comply with ASHRAE 90.1 lighting power densities and space control requirements. The existing fire alarm system was upgraded with a new fire fighter's entrance into the two-storey library.
