One of the most energy efficient residential buildings in Ontario.
West 5 Helio is 70% more energy efficient than similar-sized residential buildings, making it one of Ontario’s most efficient. This 10-storey tower features 115 luxury suites and is located in a highly-walkable community. As you walk by, you might notice the solar panels that wrap the building. These panels supply the residential tower with 50 per cent of its electricity needs – not to mention they make it an easily identifiable landmark. Inside, the building the tower includes a multimedia room, a yoga studio, and a gym, as well as a party room with a kitchen, lounge and fireplace.

Smith + Andersen was engaged as mechanical and electrical consultants for the project. Our mechanical design includes a variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system, which heats and cools the building without using natural gas. The VRF system also recovers and transfers heat from cooled suites to suites that require heating. Each residential suite also features a dedicated heat recovery ventilator and thermostat, as well as an electric hot water tank, which reduces energy consumption and eliminates the need for natural gas. Throughout the building, tenants are provided with a greater control over their electricity needs as each suite is individually metered.
The building was completed in 2019 and continues to be recognized at award ceremonies such as the 2021 London District Construction Association Excellence Awards where West 5 Helio won in the Multi Unit Residential Building category.
