The tallest mass timber and concrete hybrid building in all of North America.

The University of Toronto’s Academic Wood Tower is planned for the St. George campus in downtown Toronto. With office, meeting, and presentation rooms as well as labs and class rooms, the tower will also feature event spaces with commercial kitchens, a banquet hall (with 180-person capacity), and panoramic views of the Toronto skyline.

This 14-storey academic tower is expected to be the tallest mass timber and concrete hybrid building in all of North America. The design uses columns, decks, bracing and a core made from glue-laminated timber and accommodates the growing trend of tall timber structures — which have lower carbon footprints and faster construction time.

Smith + Andersen is providing mechanical, electrical, lighting, communications, security, audio-visual, and sustainability (Footprint) services for the wood tower.
