Sacred space.
As you walk into St Paul’s Church, you are surrounded by large archways in the main area of worship. Throughout the 20,100 square foot church, key design decisions were made with special attention paid to areas with varying functions. Smith + Andersen’s electrical, lighting, and audio-visual design maximizes functionality and flexibility across multiple zones of the space, creating layered arrangements that meet the multifunctional role of each area.

Lit from within.
Fixture placement was carefully selected and wiring was hidden to maximize the architectural beauty of this heritage space. Our designers incorporated new fixtures and technology while also refurbishing original features like heritage pendants. Adjustable light levels give the place of worship an ambient glow while achieving a traditional church feel. Designers simultaneously took reading light levels into consideration demonstrating not only aesthetic, but also practical considerations in the design. The altar is generously illuminated, while still minimizing glare for both the speaker at the front and those in the pews. From wall-mounted gimbals, to floodlights hidden from public view, every aspect of the electrical design in this church is incorporated to showcase the size and majestic architecture of the church.
Our team intentionally created focal points within the vast space, using elements like the placement of lighting infrastructure and narrow beam floodlights to focus attention on specific areas of the church and create depth throughout. The result is an intricate design that transforms the church by modernizing technology-based elements while maintaining historical features and restoring St Paul’s architectural beauty.
