AV design should focus on the users, not on the technology.

Finding the right solution for your physical environment – whether it’s a hybrid office, outdoor plaza, or live performance venue – can be an overwhelming (and costly) decision.

AV design consulting is not only about visual technology and performance sound. It's also about technology for accessibility (such as WiFi Assistive Listening). It’s digital signage for visual communication, providing building information, external environmental updates, event promotion, and digital wayfinding while also potentially increasing revenue through out-of-home advertising. It's also about training operations and IT teams to use the equipment as it's intended. And, of course, it's about using BIM360 to plan the space in 3D before construction begins, and also being available throughout construction to make sure the virtual vision comes together in reality.

Our AV experts explore all of the possibilities to find high-quality, scalable, forward-thinking solutions for just about any setting or application. And by involving an AV consultant from the initial stages of a project, you can prevent schedule delays, costly infrastructure changes, and avoidable surprises.

Smith + Andersen has a long-standing relationship with the University of Toronto, and our audio-visual team regularly provides innovative solutions for learning spaces across each U of T campus. One implementation we’re particularly proud of is the integrated AV design for presentation, conferencing, and collaboration spaces in the existing and new lecture halls, seminar rooms, and classrooms in the Faculty of Law building on their St. George campus.

When our AV team was engaged for the fit-out of Universal Music’s Toronto Headquarters, we knew that nothing less than studio-quality solutions would suffice. Literally, because the office includes a performance space and recording studio.

The design features a full professional sound system, studio-quality loudspeaker systems and audio controls, and highly-flexible AV connectivity, catering to the creative process of making and marketing music.

Businesses today are increasingly driven by mobility, collaboration, and connectivity, which makes AV solutions a critical piece of modern workplace design. Our team works independently, or alongside in-house IT teams and interior designers, to provide the most possible options based on what you are trying accomplish.

The new Canon Canada HQ needed a retail showroom that impressed. Enter our AV team! Their interactive solutions, including laser motion sensors that detect when customers pick up items and display graphics and specifications on screens and architecturally-integrated video walls, added that “wow” factor.

An important consideration for the Smart VMC Bus Terminal's AV design was announcements made through the bus station's paging system. It was important to the client (and really, to transit users everywhere), that announcements would be as clear and intelligible as possible for both passengers and staff. Smith + Andersen prepared a sound system acoustic simulation to replicate how speakers would perform in the bus terminal from a volume and intelligibility perspective.
