The Calgary Cancer Centre is one of the most comprehensive cancer treatment and research facilities in the world, with 160 inpatient beds, 13 Linear Accelerator (LINAC) vaults, two innovation treatment vaults, more than 100 patient exam rooms, and more than 100 chemotherapy chairs. The highly-anticipated Centre reached substantial completion in December last year. It is now undergoing commissioning and is on target to open to the public by early 2024.
The PCL Construction | DIALOG + Stantec design-build team included Smith + Andersen as the mechanical engineering consultant, and Footprint as the energy modelling consultant. To meet the ambitious energy targets and construction milestones, the project team adopted an integrated design approach.
“Projects of this complexity and scope will always have challenges – especially when coordinating with team members from all across the world. The high level of collaboration across disciplines, and the fact that everyone was fully focused on achieving the end goal, kept the project moving forward.”
Congratulations to the PCL Construction | DIALOG + Stantec design-build team for reaching this important milestone!
Our mechanical design team is now working with PCL and Alberta Health Services to support the installation of medical equipment and operational processes during the commissioning of the facility. The Centre is expected to welcome patients in 2024.
