Simulating the future of cybersecurity.

Located on the fifth floor of the University of Ottawa’s STEM complex, the Cyber Hub is a specialized training environment designed to support hands-on cybersecurity education. The space prioritizes interactivity, adaptability, and future growth, creating a dynamic platform for real-time simulation and learning.

 

Built for immersive learning.

At the core of the hub is a simulation room designed to replicate live cyber attack scenarios. The space features a command booth and broadcasting room, allowing instructors to simulate threats in real time while participants respond within an interactive environment.

A feature ceiling integrates lighting, devices, and controls, enabling dynamic adjustments that respond to different training scenarios.

 

Lighting that responds.

An advanced lighting control system allows each fixture within the simulation room to be individually controlled, including colour changes tied to specific “attack” conditions. This creates an immersive training environment where lighting becomes part of the learning experience.

Adapting in real time.

Late-stage changes driven by new project partnerships required significant redesign of both mechanical and electrical systems. Additional chilled water cooling was introduced to support increased IT loads, with systems designed to accommodate future expansion.

Designers also addressed complex spatial constraints, including integrating windows within fire-rated assemblies and coordinating workstations above existing perimeter heating systems.

 

Flexible infrastructure.

The hub includes server and classroom spaces designed for scalability, with infrastructure that supports future growth in both simulation capabilities and IT capacity. Display systems and training tools enable ongoing evolution of the program without requiring major upgrades.
