We’re proud to announce that effective June 1, 2025, nine new principals will be joining the leadership team at Smith + Andersen.

This group reflects the strength, depth, and diversity of experience across our offices and disciplines. From electrical and mechanical engineering to building automation and smart systems, each individual has demonstrated a commitment to collaboration, technical excellence, and leadership that continues to elevate our teams and our projects.
 

Their appointment as principals recognizes the significant contributions they have already made to Smith + Andersen, as well as their dedication to mentorship, innovation, and the continued growth of our national practice. Below is a bit more information about each of these new principals, their career paths at Smith + Andersen, their areas of expertise, and why we’re excited to welcome them into this leadership role.

Adam Juck has spent his career at the intersection of mechanical design and energy management, with a deep-rooted passion for sustainability and solving complex challenges. With early experience in commissioning and green retrofit projects across Canada, Adam he developed a strong foundation in energy-efficient building design. Since joining Smith + Andersen, Adam he has contributed to a wide range of high-performance projects and is known for his collaborative approach, technical insight, and commitment to engineering excellence.

Andrew Mallon, based in the Kelowna office, has built a strong reputation through his work on emergency services buildings, high-rise residential, and base building retrofit projects. Since the Kelowna office opened its doors in 2017, he’s played a key role in growing the team and expanding Smith + Andersen’s presence in the interior of British Columbia, with a diverse portfolio ranging from residential to municipal and post-secondary projects.

A leader in our Toronto office, Dustin Su is known for his strategic mindset and forward-thinking approach to engineering design. A long-time member of Smith + Andersen Having spent the bulk of his career at Smith + Andersen, Dustin has played a key role in shaping the company’s technological evolution and business development efforts. Dustin’s expertise spans a variety of sectors, including cultural, healthcare, and large-scale commercial projects. A dedicated mentor and advocate for professional growth, he is also an active member of S+A’s Black, Indigenous & People of Colour (BIPOC) Group, helping to drive meaningful DEI initiative some of four “Inclusion + Impact” groups within the firm. Dustin is passionate about mentorship and fostering a workplace where innovation thrives, whether through the adoption of new technologies, the evolution of career paths, or advancing S+A’s DEI initiatives.

With 17 years in the construction industry before moving into consulting, James Manson brings unique perspectives to engineering, with both hands-on and large-scale leadership experience. Since joining Smith + Andersen he has played a key role in growing the BC offices, leading recruitment and mentoring staff at all levels. James is known for his team-first mindset, his dedication to technical and professional development, and for managing the electrical design team for the New St. Paul’s Hospital project, one of the largest healthcare builds in Western Canada.

With over two decades of experience—particularly in high-rise residential and multi-tower projects, Karen takes a holistic approach to design, balancing technical excellence with architectural and stakeholder considerations. A dedicated mentor, she’s passionate about supporting the next generation of engineers and fostering a culture of continuous growth within the Vancouver office.

Since joining Smith + Andersen in 2014, Lewis Clarke has helped shape the firm’s mechanical engineering presence in Calgary, drawing on years of experience in Toronto and a strong foundation in tenant fit-outs, new construction, and building assessments. At S+A, Lewis has led major retrofit projects, complex system upgrades, and the growth of our aviation sector work. A jack of all trades with a passion for progress, he’s known for his collaborative approach and commitment to both quality and mentorship.

His journey with S+A reflects a passion for continuous learning, problem solving, and mentoring the next generation of engineers.

Since joining the Vancouver office in 2012 as a Designer, Mohammad Barakat has helped shape the local Systems team and contributed to the office’s growth in intelligent, sustainable design. He has led complex healthcare, institutional, and smart building projects, drawing on deep expertise in ICT, integrated systems, and intelligent building platforms. His passion for innovation, mentorship, and sustainability continues to guide his work and influence the team around him.

Since joining Smith + Andersen in 2017, Nick Chu has worn many hats, contributing to base building and tenant fit-out. His broad project experience spans multiple sectors, and his collaborative approach has made him a go-to resource across teams. Nick is known for bringing people together and constantly looking for ways to improve, whether through technical solutions or team dynamics.
