Lest we forget.

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, Veteran Affairs Canada opened a new permanent centre in Vimy, France, to educate visitors on the contributions that Canadians made during the First World War. Smith + Andersen provided mechanical and electrical consulting services on the visitor centre.

No distractions.

In order to keep the ceiling clean for aesthetic purposes, our mechanical team designed the ductwork to run under the floor. The team also designed /coordinated the mechanical systems to be situated on the second floor, keeping the main floor completely open for exhibition space.

Our electrical team provided specialty, high-efficiency LED lighting to highlight the exhibits. Floor receptacles and power systems were designed with flexibility in mind to facilitate various exhibition set-ups.

Our team also engaged in a collaborative process with the local on-the-ground team in France responsible for building out the facility. Smith + Andersen set the overall designs to Canadian standards, but also supported the French team with adapting the mechanical and electrical systems to connect to local utilities.

The mechanical and electrical design was focused on highlighting the exhibits, with specialty high-efficiency LED lighting and ductwork running under the floor rather than overhead.
