The centre of the community.

The Tla'amin Nation Governance House and Cultural Building is home to office and community spaces for the Tla'amin Nation on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia. One of the Pacific Northwest's Indigenous Coast Salish tribes, the Tla'amin Nation has a rich history in the area, moving to become a self-governing treaty in 2016. The creation of this Governance House addressed the need for municipal office space for the Tla’amin Nation, while also providing an art gallery, and recreation and gathering areas for the community.

Smith + Andersen was engaged as mechanical and electrical consultants for the project, which was completed in 2018.

The building is home to both office and community spaces for the Tla'amin Nation.

It’s all in the (custom) details.

Mechanically, the HVAC and fire protection systems were designed to blend seamlessly into the high wood-panelled ceilings to retain the open feeling of the space. As the building is home to a variety of functions, the security and lighting controls systems were carefully designed to suit the individual needs of each area. The facility also features energy-efficient LED lighting throughout.
