Reliable service.

Delivered through a public-private-partnership (P3) method, this data centre was required to be a highly-available, fault tolerant, Tier 4 design in accordance with the requirements set out by the Uptime Institute. The primary objectives for the project were to support the Ministry of Government Services and provide services to their public sector clients that are reliable, accessible, and cost-effective. 

Smith + Andersen provided mechanical, electrical, and sustainability services for the pursuit phase of the project, with the development of system concepts to suit the requirements of the project specific output specifications (PSOS) and carried on through detailed design and construction.

Collaborative design solutions.

The P3 delivery model of the MGS Data Centre assigned operational monetary penalties for significant deviations in the humidity levels. This elevated the importance of having the optimal construction, mechanical equipment, and controls required to comply with strict, indoor environment performance criteria. The design had to achieve very stringent pressurization and humidity control to an absolute humidity level of 54 Grains of moisture per pound of dry air with little tolerance for change.

 

Energy-efficiency first. 

Along with stringent indoor environmental controls, energy conservation was also a key consideration in the design. The facility is designed to operate at an extremely energy efficient level of performance (often not associated with data centers) while still being high reliable.
