Manitoba Hydro New Buildings Program 2.0 Performance Path

The epitome of lux.

Lux at Tux is a six-storey high-end apartment complex located across from Shindleman Park. The building includes 133 residential suites and a parking garage, as well as numerous amenities (including a party room, a rooftop patio, an outdoor courtyard, and an on-site fitness facility.

Footprint provided energy modelling and commissioning services for this project. The team also provided Manitoba Hydro Power Smart incentive facilitation.

Modelling for lux.

The Footprint team evaluated the energy performance of the facility relative to the Manitoba Energy Code for Buildings (MECB). The energy model determined MECB compliance, a 10.7 per cent energy reduction and Power Smart Incentive amount compared to the reference model.

Energy conservation measures included fiberglass windows, increased thermal performance of the roof constructions, high performance double-glazed windows, increased heat recovery, and efficient lighting design.

Checking it twice.

As the commissioning agent for this project, Footprint formalized the review and integration of all project expectations through functional performance testing. The team also verified operator training and systems manuals, and assessed documentation to establish that all of the building’s systems met the criteria and objectives set forth in the owner’s project requirements. The systematic commissioning process included improved coordination between design, construction, and occupancy, proper and efficient equipment operations, enhanced indoor air quality, an emphasis on occupant comfort and productivity, reduced operation and maintenance costs, and an anticipated longer lifespan of equipment.
