Quality takeoffs.

Located on Lapointe Drive at Kelowna International Airport, KF Aerospace Centre for Excellence is a new aviation centre. The unique “airplane”-shaped building consists of a central two-storey hub (or “fuselage”) with two “wing-shaped” hangars on either side. The building includes exhibition spaces, aircraft displays, an airfield viewing gallery, a cafeteria area, and conference rooms.

Smith + Andersen was engaged as the electrical engineers for the project.

We totally wood.

Incorporating prefabricated mass-timber components, the project used wood products that were made in BC and incorporated throughout the facility. The building features dowel-laminated timber for the hub’s roof and floor decking, and cross-laminated timber panels for load-bearing walls in the hangars. A doubly-curved staircase in the main lobby also incorporates these panels. It’s all tied together, with even the structure’s timber struts and trusses drawing heavily from aeronautical engineering.
