Maximizing resources for evolving standards.

Located in the Bentall Centre, the Hudson Pacific Head Office project involved the complete renovation of the client’s head office, transforming it into a contemporary space.

Smith + Andersen provided electrical and communication services. Our role as electrical designers included specialized lighting and lighting controls design throughout. Additionally, our communications team designed a new server room for the Hudson Pacific Properties head office.

From careful assessment to specific selections.

Prior to the renovations, the  project site required a careful assessment of existing conditions, as well as back and forth coordination with the landlord. Once the assessment of the existing space concluded, we then began working closely with the architect, McKinley Studios, to develop engineering solutions that enhanced the architectural features and maximized functional space for the office. The project team prioritized quality materials with high-end finishes that complemented the aesthetics of the fit-up. From the raked travertine reception desk, to the live edge boardroom ceiling, the interiors are inspired by natural landscapes, and the engineering solutions highlight (rather than compete with) these elements. The custom ceilings and architectural details required specific lighting design and lighting control selections.

Our electrical engineering solutions were designed to enhance architectural features and maximize the use of the space.

Collaborative cross-city coordination.

Throughout the project process, Hudson Pacific’s design standards continued to evolve, and our design needed to adjust accordingly. The client has locations in both Vancouver to San Francisco, which meant that the project required cross-city coordination and communication. Smith + Andersen’s approached mirrored this, as teams pooled resources from several of our offices. To meet the standards outlined as well as the client’s sustainability strategy and larger corporate goals, this was an undeniably collaborative project. As a result, Hudson Pacific Properties in Vancouver is a carbon neutral office.
