Upper Canada College is a private school for boys in Kindergarten through to Grade 12. Smith + Andersen has been the base building mechanical and electrical engineers for Upper Canada College since 2008 working on a variety of addition and alteration projects including master planning. The school's current master plan was staged over 10 years with a completion target of 2020. Each year, a portion of the master plan is implemented during a summer (school closed) period.
Careful planning of each scope of work for the upcoming summer is required. Of course, it is critical that the work can be accomplished within the available time period and that the school is ready for ""back to school"". Identification and pre-purchase of long lead delivery equipment is always an important part of this process as well as ensuring the permits are in place so construction can begin after the last day of school. Often the planning leading up to a summer's work will identify areas where ceilings need to be removed or equipment chases opened to permit the team to understand the existing conditions.
