This ten-storey tower will feature 115 luxury suites in one of Ontario's most energy efficient residential buildings. The tower will be located in a highly-walkable community, and will include a multimedia room, a yoga studio, and a gym. Tenants can also reserve a party room that includes a kitchen, a lounge, and a fireplace. Smith + Andersen is engaged as mechanical and electrical consultants for the project.
The mechanical design will include an air source variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system, which will heat and cool the building without using natural gas. The VRF system will also recover and transfer heat from cooled suites to suites that require heating. Each suite will include a dedicated heat recovery ventilator and thermostat, as well as an electric hot water tank, which will reduce energy consumption and eliminate the need for natural gas.
The tower will be wrapped in solar panels, which will supply the building with approximately 50 per cent of its electricity needs. Electric car charging stations will be available for tenant use, and each suite will be individually metered to give tenants greater control of their electricity needs. The building corridors will include efficient LED lighting, equipped with occupancy sensors to further reduce energy consumption.
