Located on the University of Calgary's main campus, the Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning was constructed on the old Nickle Arts Museum site. The existing building foundation was reused to support this new, state-of-the-art teaching facility. Beloved by both students and staff, the building includes a 400-seat theatre designed to host modern web/video based conferencing. The project targeted and successfully achieved LEED Gold Certification.
The mechanical system design incorporates a dedicated outdoor air ventilation system in conjunction with slab heating/cooling, chilled beams and under floor displacement air distribution. This ultra-low energy mechanical system achieved a maximum of 19 energy points on the LEED NC 2009 energy and atmosphere rating system and has been designed to be Net Zero ready with provisions added in an effort to further reduce energy consumption in the future.
