ICE District

Description:

The largest of its kind in Canada, ICE District is a new, mixed-use sports and entertainment district in downtown Edmonton. Smith + Andersen was involved with Block A, Block BG, Block D, Block E and the ICE District parkade.

Our team was engaged as the mechanical consultant for Block A - the future home of Canada's third JW Marriott Hotel as well as the Legends Private Residences. The 56-storey tower will include: 356 hotel suites, a fitness centre, a spa, restaurants, bars, a pool, an outdoor terrace, conference and meeting rooms, two ballrooms, pre-function event space, and a full-service catering kitchen.

Our team also provided mechanical engineering services for Block D, now known as the Edmonton Tower. The 27-storey office building features a three-storey podium, conference spaces, an outdoor terrace, and a daycare with a rooftop playground. Sustainability was a key feature for the entire ICE District, and the Edmonton Tower successfully achieved LEED Gold certification in 2016.

S + A Services Included:

Mechanical

As the mechanical consultant for the 1.1-million square foot parkade, our team contributed to the design of the parking structure with 2,100 stalls across five levels below-grade. The design of the parking structure is divided into three sections and each tower above is responsible for providing the utility connections to
a portion of the parkade below. This layout required our team to carefully coordinate with the design teams for each of the three towers and the plaza.
