Building opportunities in Manitoba (and beyond).

The team in Winnipeg doesn't just have a diverse portfolio of local projects. We also provide mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and sustainable design support for other Smith + Andersen offices. Residential, transportation, heritage, post-secondary, commissioning projects – you name it, we've done it.

This wide range of experience is supplemented by the team’s extensive knowledge of building codes and standards. We leverage the knowledge of Smith + Andersen’s internal experts in specialty services (such as security and audio-visual design) to provide a comprehensive multi-disciplinary experience for our clients. If you need us, you'll find us in a prime downtown location right on the edge of the Exchange District.

INNOVATION FOR COMPLEXITY

Located in Winnipeg’s historic East Exchange District, 90 Alexander is a six-storey, mixed-use building that winds around a four-storey heritage structure. Our team designed HVAC and plumbing layouts with minimal bulkheads, minimizing visibility of all of the mechanical components that nobody wants to see.

OPEN + CONNECTED

James Armstrong Richardson International Airport is the first place many travelers to Winnipeg see. When the terminal building was redeveloped in 2011, two of the most important design considerations were to reflect the openness of the prairie landscape and people, and improve connections to the region with facilities that could be used by any airline at any time. Our Winnipeg office utilized the company’s vast knowledge base from other airport projects to streamline the mechanical design into these architectural goals.

AN APPETIZING EXPERIENCE

We've  worked with Earls Restaurant Group on more than 15 locations across Canada and the United States, including the relocation and fit-up of Earls Kitchen + Bar at 300 Main in downtown Winnipeg. Our Winnipeg office coordinated with the brand’s design team so electrical systems were discreetly integrated with architectural finishes, and aligned with Earls’ unique mix of comfort and modern elements.

FLEXIBLE SPACES

The National Research Council of Canada's Advanced Manufacturing Research Facility is all about research and development. This meant that flexibility was key. Our mechanical design accounts for modular labs, supporting tenant fit-up modifications that allow different research groups to utilize the space.
