The Animal Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) at the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) in a one-storey veterinary clinic, which is open to the public, that is used to teach students at the OVC how a clinic is run and to learn through real life interactions with customers and animals. The facility includes admitting areas, exam rooms with teaching observation rooms attached, treatment wards, a surgery and dentistry suite, holding areas and overnight facilities, rehabilitation areas complete with a pool and jacuzzi, nursing stations, pharmacy, meeting/multi-purpose room, and ancillary spaces.
Two main air handling units serve the complex; one for the main lobby, administrative and office areas and another unit providing the high air changes required in the technical areas of the building. The surgery and isolation suites were designed in a similar manner to healthcare applications with HEPA filtration and low velocity diffusers to ensure effective ventilation to the space. Other unique applications include an indoor artificial turf flushing system for the resident dogs, doggy condos and indoor aquatics centre. The heating and cooling is supplied from the central campus utility plant. The building also includes medical gas system and distribution.
