Minto Place in Ottawa is a complex of buildings that encompasses a complete city block bound by the streets of Laurier Ave W, Lyon St N, Slater St, and Kent St. The new 19-storey office tower is located at the site of an old surface parking area to the east, and interconnects with the existing building on all four levels of below grade parking and at the ground and second floor central podium area. Concourse and food court renovations to the Minto Place complex followed the completion of the 180 Kent office tower. The new building has achieved LEED Platinum Certification.
The building has been designed to meet the highest standards for energy efficiency design. The building is provided with enhanced ventilation, fresh air heat recovery, condensing boilers, high efficiency chillers and variable frequency drives on all motors larger than 3 hp. VAV terminals provide air distribution to all office areas. Perimeter heating is provided using fan powered VAV boxes with ECM motors.
Security services included design of; video surveillance (CCTV), electronic card access control, intrusion detection and intercom throughout the facility.
A duress alarm system consisting of static duress stations was design to provide building occupants with ability to request urgent assistance with the parking levels.
The design also include integration of all security systems with centralized monitoring at a security management computer within the facility.
