Engaged in 2016, Smith + Andersen acted as the prime, mechanical consultant on a phased upgrade to the existing Mount Royal University (MRU) main campus heating plant.
Beginning with an initial investigation and feasibility study, the project team presented MRU with a phased approach to modernizing the operation of the existing plant.
This approach included:
+ Upgrades to the existing boiler controls.
+ Conversion to a variable flow heating system.
+ The addition of new heating pumps.
+ Implementation of a Direct Digital Control (DDC) system.
+ The addition of a new, combined heating and power unit.
Smith + Andersen's mechanical team also assisted with energy reduction reporting and system recommissioning. Given the proposed energy targets, project funding was receiving from the Alberta Climate Change Funding Program.
