The Calgary Film Centre is the first purpose built facility for the film, television and creative industries in Alberta. The centre includes two buildings; a warehouse space and rentable workshop space with an allocated office space for the Calgary Film Centre, and the studio building which includes three soundstages and a common circulation area (Central Spine Building).
Through industry specialist feedback, the rentable workshop unit space could be used for a variety of soundstage support activities including; open concept offices, wardrobe, and make-up. Therefore, flexibility is key in the mechanical system design. All workshop unit space, as well as soundstage space, will be metered for billing purposes. This project is designed in accordance with the City of Calgary Great Plains Industrial Park Sustainable Design Guidelines.
The uniquely stringent acoustic requirements for the soundstage results in customized mechanical systems designs based on third party industry consultant and expert recommendations, industry tradespeople feedback, and stakeholder requirements.
All mechanical units are located in the acoustically separated Central Spine Building away from the soundstages and maintain a consistent sound barrier from overhead sources.
