The Shopify headquarters recently relocated and now occupies six floors within Performance Court in Ottawa. Smith + Andersen provided fit-up for floors 6-11, and 12-14. Floors 6-11 involved approximately 102,000 square feet of office space. Floors 12 and 13 are approximately 32,000 square feet and include office space and meeting rooms. The 14th floor is approximately 6,000 square feet and also consists of office space, meeting and assembly rooms, and a kitchenette.
The mechanical design for the fit-up on floors 6-11 includes stealth quality fan powered boxes with hot water heating for the perimeter and variable air volume (VAV) boxes for the interior. Supply air is provided from compartmental units on each floor. As part of the fit-up, a full commercial kitchen installed on the 8th floor to provide staff meals. The base building did not have provisions for a kitchen exhaust system. Make-up air units (MUA), ecologizer exhaust and heat exchangers were installed at high level in the open ceiling. A section of the base building curtain wall was removed so that MUA units and exhaust could be provided through new louvers at the west end of building.
The electrical systems were designed using innovative, creative and inventive theming. Occupancy controlled LED lighting have been installed throughout. A digital metering system is integrated to the base building system to monitor power consumption.
