The design goal for Earls Head Office was to create an office environment on the heritage site of 425 Carrall Street that reflects the brand displayed within Earls' restaurants. The building, originally home to the BC Electric Company and a former bank, presented the challenge of retaining the inherent historic character of the space, while interchanging modern elements on an as-needed basis.
The electrical infrastructure was challenging due to the insufficient available power, the existing structure columns and beams, as well as the unconventionally shaped floor. In order to work around the amount of available power, the design and equipment selection was of significant importance. LED lighting and low energy consumption equipment was utilized and load testing performed to ensure adequate loads. The office space meets, and exceeds, the current ASHRAE standards for lighting efficiency with daylight harvesting, step dimming, and vacancy features. The lounge area features a DJ booth and is designed with infrastructure to be utilized as a staff lunch room, as well as a large multipurpose room for company events.
