With the rapid evolution of audiovisual technology, it can be challenging to choose the system that will meet the specific needs of every unique space. Smith + Andersen’s AV team has the expertise to lead clients in the most valuable direction, offering high-quality system solutions to suit any application. Dwayne Olde has recently joined the Smith + Andersen team, bringing with him more than two decades of design and application expertise. Based out of the Calgary office, Dwayne and the audiovisual team now have a greater capacity to provide exceptional solutions for clients on a national level. We spoke to Dwayne about his industry experience, and Dustin Su, a Senior Associate in Toronto and the lead of Smith + Andersen’s national AV team, about the growth of the team.
Dwayne, tell us about your past industry experience.
Dwayne: Over a 20 year career in the AV industry, my experience has been pretty widespread. I’ve provided AV solutions for the world famous Calgary Stampede, as well as several prominent bands on international tours. In addition to this more “on the ground” experience, I’ve have designed and installed audiovisual systems in healthcare and education facilities, offices, and recreation centres. Most recently, I led the design and installation of the paging and display system in the new international terminal at the Calgary Airport.
What does this new addition to Smith + Andersen’s team mean for the firm?
Dustin: By adding Dwayne to our team, we’ve created a strong network of support for our clients nationwide. Over the past decade, we’ve already had the opportunity to work on several exciting projects in the west, such as the Mosaic Stadium in Regina, Saskatchewan, the Whistle Bend Continuing Care in Whitehorse, Yukon, the Emerald Hills Aquatic and Wellness Centre in Sherwood Park, Alberta, and the Marriott Hotel – Calgary International Airport in Calgary, Alberta. Now, with Dwayne working out of our Calgary Office, we will have a greater capability to help clients on a national level. The audiovisual team has a strong synergy – and, with the option to collaborate with Smith + Andersen’s local mechanical and electrical teams, we truly offer clients a one-stop shop for integrated building design.
What do you see as some of the opportunities for Smith + Andersen’s AV team in western Canada?
Dwayne: This is common knowledge, but there aren’t many independent AV consultants in Calgary. Smith + Andersen’s AV team can provide clients with confidence that they are getting the best independent advice on current audiovisual solutions. We also oversee the contractor’s installation to provide the best possible outcome for clients, and are experts at delivering construction projects on time and on budget. Demand for these services is growing across Canada, and we want to let clients know that we’re here to work with them, ultimately finding the right solution for their project.
