Designer - Electrical

The Calgary office of Smith + Andersen is currently seeking an experienced Electrical Designer. You’re a trained engineer with a passion for electrical building services design.  You never shy away from a load calculation, and have the skills to produce drawings in AutoCAD MEP and/or REVIT. You enjoy taking on new challenges, but you’re most excited when you can buckle down and efficiently get work done. Does this sound like you? If so, here are some of the more detailed responsibilities you can expect in this position

  • Performing specific tasks assigned by Principal or Project Manager in defined time
  • Perform site surveys as required
  • Perform CAD/REVIT tasks assigned within given hours
  • Adhere to AutoCAD MEP and/or REVIT standards
  • Check layouts and services for continuity
  • Co-ordination of drawings with codes
  • Supervision of drawings between other disciplines
  • Prepare AutoCAD/REVIT drawings from sketches, mark-ups and/or design
  • When requested to prepare CAD drawing from sketches or mark-ups, upon completion verify CAD drawings against such sketches to ensure accuracy of work
  • Develop lighting layouts and co-ordinate with other disciplines
  • Develop power distribution layout and sizing as well as layouts of electrical/switch/transformer rooms
  • Any other tasks assigned by Principals or Project Managers required to assist in the success of the firm as it relates to the position.

A few more qualifications which will help you with these responsibilities:

  • 3 or more years of experience in the field of electrical building services
  • Diploma/Degree from an electrical building services program
  • A C.E.T. with equivalent experience and abilities will be considered
  • Demonstrate a strong desire for advancement and professional development
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in complex environment often driven by project deadlines
  • AutoCAD training from a recognized College and have exposure to electrical layouts and systems. Knowledge of AutoCAD MEP 2015 is preferred
  • Familiarity with REVIT would be considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with systems such as fire alarm, communication and other specialized electrical systems
  • Familiarity with lighting calculations and able to perform such calculations
  • The amount of experience would adjust the level of responsibility of the successful candidate's position
