BIM Technician - Electrical

The Edmonton office of Smith + Andersen is currently seeking an experienced BIM Technician.  You are qualified in the project engineering of building services and possess excellent AutoCAD drafting skills. You are a team player who is highly motivated with good communication skills. You will work under the direct supervision of a project engineer or designer and will have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of commercial projects including healthcare, condo-residential, education and many others.

Does this sound like you? If so, here are some of the more detailed responsibilities you can expect in this position:

  • Prepare drawings from sketches, mark-ups and/or design for mechanical and/or electrical building systems.
  • Adhere to office BIM standards. 
  • Verify CAD drawings against 2D drawings to ensure accuracy of work.
  • Check layouts of mechanical services for interferences with other components of the building such as structure, ceilings, lighting, etc. for continuity.
  • Familiar with architectural, structural and electrical models to appreciate space limitations and interferences when requested to develop pip or duct layouts.
  • Perform load calculations.
  • Other duties assigned by Project Managers as required.

A few more qualifications which will help you with these responsibilities:

  • College diploma from an architectural or mechanical/electrical building services program; or a related field with relevant work experience.
  • One to five years of direct industry experience.
  • Completed AutoCAD training from a recognized college and preferably exposure to mechanical layouts and systems. Knowledge of AutoCAD MEP 2012 is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Autodesk REVIT MEP software.
  • Knowledge of all Microsoft Office suites, specifically Word and Excel.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills.
  • Highly innovative and motivated with an attention to detail. 
  • Flexible, adaptable, and have a positive attitude.
  • Ability to accept direction.
  • Able to work independently, as well as contribute to the team.
  • Previous experience in  building services is an asset.
